Don Sullivan Obituary, Death – On December 13, 2023, at his home in Gray, Kentucky, James “Jim” T. Sullivan passed away peacefully at the age of 85 after bravely facing a lengthy illness. While the world mourns the loss of a true patriot, devoted family man, and esteemed farmer, those who were privileged to know him reflect on a life characterized by resilience, love, and unyielding dedication.
His ever-present pockets filled with treats for his grandchildren were symbolic of his easy humor and constant generosity. As a beloved husband of many decades to his cherished wife, Helen Higgins Sullivan, and a devoted father to his son, Don Wayne Sullivan, Jim’s roles as a veteran, son, brother, husband, dad, papaw, and uncle showcased the depth of his character and the breadth of his love.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment, embodied by his adoring grandchildren: Braxton and Annabelle Cima, Brandi, Sophia, and DonJames Roark, Katelyn and Mark Elliott, Raeghan Miller, and Chase Smith. Another grandchild is expected in the spring of 2024, a source of great joy and a continuation of his legacy. His passing is also mourned by surviving nephews and niece: William, Daniel, and Stephen Kuiper (Grand Rapids), Marvin Sullivan (Birmingham), Russell Reeves Jr. (New Orleans), and Rhonda Reeves (Lexington).
Beyond his life as a farmer, Jim’s heart beat with the spirit of a true cowboy and cattleman. His herds mourned the loss of his daily visits throughout his illness, and the weekly stock sales felt different without his presence, even though he watched them faithfully on his iPad in recent years. Jim’s blood ran John Deere green, and the landscapes he cultivated will cast a long shadow of his memory for generations to come. His pastures, hills, barns, and greenhouse will forever be a tribute to a man whose legacy is woven into the fabric of time.
